Doctors Prescribing Viagra to Babies
The little blue pill known as Viagra isn’t only helping men.
Some doctors have sick babies popping the pill.
Doctors at a Florida hospital are prescribing Viagra to sick infants suffering lung problems.
Many parents worry what else the pill could do for their babies.
But doctors assure them Viagra does not have the same impact on children as it does for older men.
“As the blood flow goes to the lung, the arteries in the lung become constricted or tightened. With Viagra therapy it relaxes those vessels and allows more blood flow to go to the lungs and improves the symptoms for the patient,” Dr. Gul Dadlani with the All Children’s Hospital said.
Pharmacists crush the little blue pill and give it to infants in liquid form.
Viagra does carry some risks for babies. If too much is given, it can drop blood pressure.
Also, there are no finished studies showing long term effects.
