Gardai seize Viagra tablets

GARDAI have seized a drug with a difference which is being peddled increasingly on the streets of Dublin.

Viagra is now up there with cocaine as the recreational drug being widely used and sold illegally.

The latest haul was of some 10,000 tablets.

They were seized in Ballyfermot following the discovery earlier this month of a haul of hundreds in the home of a suspected hard-drugs dealer.

The Ballyfermot haul of tablets were being examined to determine their authenticity amid fears that fake tablets are in circulation.

Man dies in road accident

A MAN died after a road accident in Wexford this morning. The crash occurred on the New Ross-Campile Road between midnight and 1am.

It is understood that two cars collided and that three people were involved altogether. The two survivors were injured, however it is not thought that their injuries are serious.

The section of road remained closed this morning to allow garda carry out investigations into what caused the accident.

Man in custody over drug haul

A MAN remained in garda custody today following a seizure of cannabis resin worth over ?500,000.

Customs officers at Rosslare Europort seized more than 80kgs of the drug after searching vehicles.

The cannabis was found in the back of a van which had travelled on a ferry from the French port of Roscoff.

One man was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at Wexford Garda Station.

McDowell talks about terrorism

Former Tanaiste Michael McDowell made a rare public appearance today since dramatically quitting politics more than a year ago.

The ex-PD leader spoke about combating terrorism at the World Bar Conference in Dublin Castle.

The former Justice Minister shared a platform with academics on the subject ‘The Lawyer’s Role in the Fight against Terror.’

It was chaired by Supreme Court Judge Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman.
