United licenses drug indication to Lilly

Are you ready for an erectile dysfunction drug revamped to treat high blood pressure? Eli Lilly and United Therapeutics are betting big on it. The two companies have inked a deal to commercialize the active ingredient in Cialis–tadalafil–for pulmonary arterial hypertension. That indication is currently under review by watchdogs in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan, and the E.U.

Under the deal, United Therapeutics will pony up $150 million for exclusive rights to tadalafil for the hypertension use in the U.S. The company will also get a manufacturing-and-supply deal for its money: Lilly will make the molecule for United Therapeutics and will handle all the regulatory and patent details.

Viagra for women? It might not be too far off.

Or the past 10 years, men have boosted their sex lives with Viagra.

But how far off is a magic drug for women whose libidos have fizzled out?

It may be coming soon, say the makers of a new medication aimed at kick-starting a woman’s sex drive.

LibiGel, a testosterone gel produced by BioSante Pharmaceuticals, is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical trials in medical centers across the country, including The Medical Center for Female Sexuality in Purchase.

Women who are testing the gel, which is rubbed into the skin on the upper arm, have all gone through menopause, either surgically or naturally, and have experienced a decline in sex drive.

“Pink Viagra” could help women enhance their love lives

It could be a new way for women to enhance their love lives, and a group of Chicago area women is among the first in the nation to test it.

Libigel is a testosterone based treatment, and if the trials are successful and Biosante Pharmaceuticals gets government approval, it would be the first FDA approved drug to boost desire in women.

Testosterone as a “pink Viagra” is nothing new.

Proctor and Gamble poured millions into a testosterone patch that worked for women in clinical trials.

Man arrested with Viagra in park

OKALOOSA ISLAND - One of three men arrested in February for public sex has been arrested again - for returning to the same spot with Viagra in his pocket, sheriff’s deputies say.

The 55-year-old man is charged with trespassing after a warning and possession of certain drugs without a prescription, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy recognized him two weeks ago during a security check at Gulf Islands National Seashore, the report states. He radioed to check on the man’s trespass warning.

Sex Party promises cheap Viagra

Amid adult toys and pole dancers, the sex industry has launched its own political movement promising to push for cheaper access to Viagra and other drugs used to treat sexual dysfunction.

The Australian Sex Party says it is serious about sex and about politics, aiming to win at least one Senate seat in each state, while also targeting Upper House state seats.

The party was officially launched at the Sexpo exhibition in Melbourne on Thursday, with convenor Fiona Patten vowing it would rage against the rise of conservatism in Australia.
