Pfizer gives Viagra to jobless during hard times
The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer states it will give away free Viagra, as well as 70 other drugs, to people who’ve lost their jobs.
The world’s largest pharmaceutical company yesterday said it will give away free drugs for up to a year for Americans who have lost their job since the start 0f 2009 and have been using a mainstream Pfizer drug for at least three months.
Applicants will have to sign a document stating that they are having financial hardship and give a “pink slip” or other employer notice. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 31.
”We all know people who have been laid off recently and have lost their health insurance,” said Jorge Puente, a Pfizer regional president and leading champion of the initiative, in a statement.
”We thought there must be some way we could help recently unemployed people who are taking Pfizer medicines to continue treatment during these challenging economic times.”
Approximately 70 common drugs will be given out, including cholesterol fighter Lipitor and painkiller Celebrex.
The program is also expected to help keep patients loyal to Pfizer brands (for example Viagra).
Pfizer spokesman Ray Kerins said of the scheme, “This has to do with all of us seeing friends, relatives and neighbors going through tough economic times knowing we have medicines that are going to help them.”
