Viagra sold from grocery store
Viagra was illegally sold from a grocery store until the store’s owner Vasant K. Patel, was found out.
Patel has now been sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay $993 after pleading guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. He was arrested in November 2009 after a search was carried out on his Shop-Rite store, and bags containing the popular impotence treatment Viagra were discovered. His store did not have a license to sell the drug, and as a result his license to sell liquor was revoked to.
As in Britain Viagra is only available legally in the US on a doctor’s prescription. The medication can be purchased online but only from websites that offer an in-depth consultation process, with consultation forms being viewed by a trained doctor before prescriptions are approved.
The illegal sale of Viagra is a huge problem. In many cases the drugs that are sold illegally are not genuine, branded Viagra. The drug’s manufacturer Pfizer has invested a lot of effort into countering counterfeiting – including recruiting ex-FBI and CIA personnel to track down criminals selling fake drugs.
Viagra, Levitra and Cialis are the most popular impotence treatments available. Impotence affects around one in ten men amongst the wider population, and one in two men above the age of 40. In the past erectile dysfunction has been seen as a problem to keep quiet about, but the advent of Viagra has been credited with breaking down barriers and allowing men to talk more freely about this common condition.
