Women prefer longer-lasting Cialis to Viagra
A husband and wife sex research team have revealed what it is that women want when their partners seek help for erection problems.
Women prefer longer-acting medication so sex can be more spontaneous, but more than anything they want the opportunity to talk about it.
It is the first time that women’s views have been sought about treatment for their partner’s erection problems.
One-hundred Waikato couples were given a three-month supply of both Viagra and Cialis.
“Up to 50 percent of men after the age of 50 have difficulty with their erections and this increases with age,” says endocrinologist Associate Professor John Conaglen.
Surprisingly the majority, 79 percent, of women preferred their partners to take Cialis – a longer-acting medication that lasts for up to 36 hours.
“I think women like the flexibility and the longer timeframe that the longer-acting drug gave them,” says sex researcher Dr Helen Conaglen, “and that allowed them to renew their intimacy and behave much as they were prior to have problems with erections.”
“I think men are fairly straightforward,” says Prof Conaglen. “By and large they want to have sex, which they mean intercourse.”
One couple in their 60s 3 News spoke to have struggled with their sex life through 46 years of marriage. They now pay $26 for each tablet of Cialis, but say it is worth it.
“We are getting on in life,” says the husband. “Loving each other is more important, and this is a wonderful way of showing love to each other, therefore it is a necessity on our budget and we have to budget for it.”
Fixing erectile dysfunction is not just about popping a pill and making it better. What men and women want is to be closer in their relationship and more intimate as a couple.
