Worker busted in thefts of Viagra
FAIRFIELD — An employee of a Post Road pharmacy was charged Wednesday with stealing bottles of erectile dysfunction medication off the store shelves and selling them to an illegal drug dealer.
Louis Hernandez, 19, of West Avenue, Bridgeport, later confessed that he stole nearly $40,000 worth of Viagra, Levitra and Cialis from the CVS at 698 Post Road.
He was charged with first-degree larceny, three counts of illegal distribution of prescription drugs and one count of illegally obtaining prescription drugs.
Hernandez was free on bond pending arraignment next Wednesday in Superior Court.
According to police, a CVS manager told police in June the Post Road store had suffered significant thefts of erectile dysfunction medicines.
The manager said a hidden camera was installed at the store, and recorded Hernandez, a pharmacy technician, removing bottles of the medication from the shelves and hiding them beneath his lab coat, police said.
The camera recorded Hernandez stealing the medication on 10 occasions between May 16 and June 12, police said.
On June 21, Hernandez confessed to stealing the drugs, police said.
Police said he told them he had been approached about a year and a half ago by a man known to him as “Freeze,” who had offered him money in exchange for Viagra, Levitra and Cialis pills.
Hernandez said once a month he would meet Freeze and give him the pills in exchange for cash, police said. Hernandez estimated he was taking in about $12 to $15 a pill from Freeze, police said.
